Having a Student Mentality Starting on Day One Will Help You Succeed
Mindset is everything. No matter what you want to achieve in life, having the right mindset can make the difference between success and failure. I learned this at a young age being a sport fanatic and playing soccer throughout my whole life. I have always wanted to be better than the person next to me and more importantly, better than I was the day before. Constantly growing and learning is engraved into my DNA. Anyone that has met me knows that I like to have a fun time but when it comes to doing business, I have a very determined mentality to do better than I did the day/week before. I self-critique myself more than anyone else does but it has led me into the position that I am today.
When I first started, I instantly became intrigued in everything that we do and why we do it. No matter how experienced you may be or how much you may think you know, there is not one employee who can’t improve in some way.
The advice I can give to you is that the most thing important thing a new account manager can do is grasp all the information that comes from 1 on 1 meetings and advice that leaders give you. This means taking notes, not being afraid to ask questions, being proactive to answering questions (even if you are wrong) and being able to take all of that knowledge and apply it each and every day.
One must be able to embrace any failures and be able to turn it into a success; after all, fail can be translated into:
When faced with a problem or challenge that makes you think “I can’t”, finish that mentality with “…yet”. Ask yourself “How do I get better” and start to work on that progress. Taking baby steps every day will eventually result in tremendous personal and professional growth. Our business will only allow you to maximize on your potential as much as you let it.
“There are no secrets to success. It’s the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.”
-Colin Powell, U.S. Secretary of State
